Choosing the Perfect Bridal Hairstyle: Expert Tips from Bridal Hair by Natasha

Your bridal hairstyle is an integral part of your wedding day look but with so many styles and accessories to choose from it can be challenging to find the perfect one.

To help guide you through this process we've gathered insights from bridal hairdresser Natasha Griffin. Here's what she suggests to ensure your hairstyle is perfectly tailored to your wedding day from accessory choices to style considerations, and even practical tips for unpredictable weather.

The Impact of Accessories on Bridal Hairstyles

One of the first questions Natasha asks brides is whether they have already chosen their hair accessory. The type of accessory you select can greatly influence your hairstyle. Whether it's a tiara, headband, vine, or slide, the size and shape of the accessory will guide the hairdo options.

Natasha explains, "If a bride has picked their accessory, that can really determine the type of hair we can do. If it's a large tiara, that might require a certain structure, while a more delicate vine or pins could work with various styles. That's why I always ask about accessories first."

For brides who haven't yet chosen an accessory, Natasha brings an accessories kit to the hair trial. This allows the bride to experiment with different pieces to see what complements their chosen hairstyle and wedding theme. "This helps narrow down what they might go on to buy," she says, "and prevents the need for repurchasing an accessory that doesn't match their vision."

Considering the Dress, Venue, and Vision

Before deciding on a hairstyle, Natasha recommends sharing details about your dress, venue, and overall vision for the wedding day. "I ask to see a picture of the dress and learn about the venue where they're getting married," she says. "It helps to understand the setting, whether it's formal or casual, indoors or outdoors. And I also ask the bride to bring at least three inspiration pictures, so I can get a sense of their style preferences."

Once Natasha has this information, she can suggest styles that work best with the dress and the venue's atmosphere. "If a bride has a high-neck gown, I might suggest an updo. If the venue is outdoors and there's a chance of wind or rain, I'll recommend against loose hair," she explains.

The Importance of Hair Trials and Dress Rehearsals

Natasha emphasizes the importance of a hair trial to ensure the chosen style is perfect for you. "I recommend brides try on their dress after the hair trial so they can see the whole look together before the big day," she advises. "This way, they can be 100% sure about their choice."

Hair trials also allow the stylist to provide honest feedback based on their experience. Natasha shares a common scenario: "If a bride is unsure about whether they want their hair up or down, I'll be totally honest with them. Living in Scotland, we can't guarantee the weather. If there's a chance of rain, I'll suggest against having their hair down. Also, if the dress has beautiful detailing on the back, we don't want to hide it."

Another consideration is the use of hair extensions. Natasha often recommends clip-in extensions to add volume and longevity to hairstyles, especially if a bride wants her hair down. "Extensions can help curls last longer and maintain the structure of the hairstyle," she notes.

Choosing a Style That Feels Like You

Natasha highlights the importance of choosing a hairstyle that feels natural and comfortable. She shares, "Along the way, I've met brides who never wear their hair up but decide to try it for their wedding. During the trial, they realize it's not for them because they don't feel like themselves. The same goes for those who rarely wear their hair down—they might find it uncomfortable on their big day."

Ultimately, Natasha's advice is to stay true to yourself. If you're unsure about a particular style, she recommends trying it out during the hair trial and then deciding if it feels right. "If you don't feel comfortable, it's better to find a style that suits you," she advises.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the perfect bridal hairstyle involves many factors, from bridal hair accessories and wedding jewellery to dress style and even weather considerations. With Natasha Griffin's expert advice, you can make informed decisions that align with your vision, ensuring you feel confident and beautiful on your wedding day. Remember, it's your day, and your hairstyle should reflect your unique personality and style.
